>Project RM125: Rebuilding the engine

Engines don't come much simpler than an air-cooled two stroke single, so even we should be able to get this thing back together. Rather than go in to exact detail (buy a manual you cheapskate) we've just run through the basics so you can see what is involved and the problems we had.

We already have a Clymer manual for the bike and now we can look at all the pictures and forget to read the text which states that if you rotate the kickstart to the left it will work and if you don't it won't - hey it only took us two hours to figure out...

How hard should I hit it?
Now we have 20 ice cream tubs full of bits so we'd better start rebuilding the engine and see how many bits we have left over by the time we finish...
and here's the plan...
1 Get a Bike...
2 Strip It
3 Clean it
4 Paint it
5 Seat
6 Engine
7 Frame and Suspension
8 Test it
9 Race it
The costs so far...

What we learnt this time...
Read the manual, then read it again, then have a look at the actual bike and take a deep breath - it really isn't that difficult and the basics are pretty universal to all bikes. The trick is to think about what you are doing and actually read all the instructions. Some bits are going to be tricky, and this can't be avoided, but when you finally get it right and you hear the engine running you can't beat it.
