Did we forget to mention that restoring an old dirt bike costs money? Well here are the hard facts, just don't tell my girlfriend...

Here are the parts we bought...

	The first thing we ordered (along with the manual) was a gasket set. This wasn't cheap (£30) but that's for a full set of genuine suzuki parts
	Having stripped the engine we soon realised that a new set of bearings were in order (water had got in and wrecked the right side main bearing) so again Crooks Suzuki came up with main bearings and seals, although we did have to wait for one of the bearings for about two weeks
	Next up was a wiseco piston plus all the parts for a crank rebuild. The crank was tricky to judge if it needed rebuilding, but we priced it up and at under £100 including the parts it seemed like money well spent. The wiseco piston is fantastic and at around £50 seems like good value. The barrel doesn't look too worn so we decided not to rebore it.
	The reed block was the main component that was missing when we stripped the engine. Luckily Crooks had one in stock and sold it to us at a discount price of £36 - bargain.
	We managed to get two new sidepanels, the right one came from stock and Crooks managed to order another one - a bargain at £26 each (I saw one at an autojumble with an asking price of £70!).
	We got our seat cover from MXM and it fits perfectly and was reasonably priced at £26, had to wait a while for delivery but worth it.

Those hard to find bits...

	There were a couple of parts that we couldn't source locally (in the UK) and after trawling round shows we thought that we'd have to give up - until we found suziparts.com.au, who sorted us out with the missing chain tensioner and sprocket cover at a very reasonable price.
	It takes 7 separate part numbers to make up the tensioner - according to suziparts.com.au this is the uprated version of the tensioner and this is backed up by the parts diagram they kindly sent to us - cost $A94.00
	Look at the lovely magnesium sprocket cover, almost too lovely to get it covered in chain lube and cack all for $A90.00, with a favourable exchange rate this price ain't bad for genuine suzuki parts.

We also needed some bars, levers and cables. Some of the stuff was sourced from Dual Sport in Ledbury (01531 632 745) who also did the crank rebuild - nice people and very helpful when presented with some manky bolts, o-rings and springs.

What we learnt this time...

Finding a reliable source of parts is half the battle when restoring a bike. Crooks Suzuki were excellent - its a good job somebody knows what's going on. A big thanks to suziparts.com.au - they know their stuff and it is surprising how quickly you can ship stuff from the other side of the world, something Suzuki can't manage.
