It was a hard gig when you were in your 30s. Then, around the four or five year mark, some really good things started to happen. It was the 80’s. You might be in the footage though.

I don’t sit down and think, okay, I need a song that goes with spandex pants. “It’s one thing after another thing after another thing,” he tells 1071 The Boss midday host Michele Amabile. EMMETT: It’s kind of a half compliment, half slap in the face. Have you seen the whole thing yet? Yeah, I’ve got to talk to my doctor about that. It worked out to the best for everyone. He wanted to turn TRIUMPH into a band where I would be the singer of everything. And I had some personal physical challenges in terms of arthritis in my neck and back and arthritis in my wrists and my fingers and stuff. Low around 35F. The band was called Triumph! KNAC.COM: I completely agree with you on that. But, of course, they had Hollywood actresses and Eddie was with Valerie Bertinelli at the time. [Laughs] That’s a good story. At the same time I was playing in basement bands and garage bands, learning LED ZEPPELIN licks. He’s the kind of guy that would much rather go play golf, and get an injury from playing golf. Arena rock. There’s a guy on there that plays a district attorney and his secret life is that he goes into his dungeon with his wife. It’ll be like that guy, did you ever see the show Billions?
He’s really smart, and he really knows his stuff. Unload the baggage. We saved the last group of jazz guitar pieces as the last group of six, and the instrumentals.

There are several reasons. I never realized that TRIUMPH worked with him. Get concert tickets, news and RSVP to shows with Bandsintown. The solo albums come amid more projects for Emmett, including writing a book of poetry, an autobiography (possibly more than one) and an upcoming Triumph documentary. But, Roger Taylor, there’s another drummer that’s kind of helping him out back there. You’re in social media, Anne, so you’ll appreciate this.

And it's not like I need the money. [Laughing] I’m sure I could probably get along with Ron and sit down and have a drink with him and it would be fine. Technology has come so far. In 1995, Emmett released “The Spiral Notebook,” an album filled with singer-songwriter gems. He is a singer, songwriter and masterful guitarist.

I’m pretty good at guitar because I’m left handed. I used to go and play Thursday nights at the YMCA coffee house. KNAC.COM: Wow. [Laughing] Being I only have to go down to the basement. EMMETT: Well, good question. Guitarist. Welcome to the Official Rik Emmett Page! He never made it through to the end of the album. Watch the full video interview below, and read the interview via the feature. It means very little to me, but when we were trying to come up with a clever name for the band, Dave was in it, Steve Skingley (bass) and Paul DeLong on drums and the record company was giving me this deal, I wanted to make a real band record. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph.. Eventually there will be 24. I was a boy soprano, first soprano at 7. EMMETT: They’re all done.

EMMETT: Well, I don’t think he’s still the same kind of guy. So, I did do that. I’ll have to have control. That gig Dec. 1 (in North Tonawanda) is the last one I have on the books, and it may be the last one I play in the states. EMMETT: Yeah, you know, I’m going to agree with you and disagree with you. The Ron we met just came off the resurrection of HEART and JEFFERSON STARSHIP. That always existed, it was just– you had things like radio that did it for bands like Triumph. It was the 80’s. Meanwhile, here’s Round Hill, and they’re putting out this stuff, and now I’m doing all these interviews and things and because of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, I did that, but then I was getting tired of that. I was the blonde girl in like the 5th row, or something like that. The Bonfire stuff I have on my site to download, Folk Songs For The Farewell Bonfire I just did with a couple of good mics and a computer and away you go. I understand you do not tour now. You and I are here talking, and it’s bits and bytes flowing through fiber optic cable at the speed of light. With a resume as this, one would think at least some ego would follow.
Hope springs eternal, right? So then I got a guitar when I was 9 or 10, and now I started to learn some stuff. I doubt it. I just felt like I was never going to let the marketplace be the thing that dictated what I was going to do next. This Zoom thing is kind of fun. EMMETT: Yeah, I’ve been in the business long enough that sometimes you’ve got to do some things, so you create a good backstory.

That’s just how I operate. They had a compound built backstage, and it looked like sort of “Lord of the Flies.” It looked like a fort that had upright, wooden sticks, palisade all around the outside with a moat.

[Laughs] [laughs]. I know what I’m getting myself into. In 2016, Moore and Levine reunited with Rik as special guests on the "RES 9" album from Emmett's band RESOLUTION9. I think it becomes a question of how. But then, by the time I’m about 17, 18, I’m hearing English Progressive bands and I’m hearing jazz guitar players and I’m going, well gee, this is pretty good and if I want to be a good guitar player, this is the measuring stick. That’s possible. I do miss sometimes the fun of it or the glamour of it. They were all done at once. I sent him the stuff and he said, this is great. [Laughs] Even though TRIUPMH did that, and that was a part of what the record companies were saying they wanted. It’s what made me understand that you have to make a physical connection to music.

KNAC.COM: Way better than just saying you just went into your basement. We actually got together and rehearsed and we played 3-songs for a group of fans that they flew in from all over the world last November. There were albums of classical guitar, jazz, flamenco, blues, melodic rock, the sky has been the limit. They’re doing that in some sort of digital, safe distancing way. Oh yeah. I think it becomes a question of how. After 20 years apart, Emmett, bassist Mike Levine and drummer Gil Moore played at the 2008 editions of the Sweden Rock Festival and Rocklahoma. He had to show me pictures of you playing a Flying-V and a double-necked guitar, and told me every guitar player at the time was in awe over these guitars. In the first few years of the band, it would be enough that it was like, let’s keep this going. He was the guy that picked the name! I would say that I’m a writer more than I am anything else. Then it is just a question of how we manage the retailing of these off the website.

EMMETT: Well, I don’t think he’s still the same kind of guy. What medication are you taking for that? KNAC.COM: Okay, in closing, I have to nerd out a minute with you here. It’s a humble thing. I certainly wondered how I would be ego-wise because, well, I am addicted to instant gratification of a crowd saying, 'Yeah, you're wonderful; and we love you.'

It might not have even been a boyfriend, who knows? So, I would never say never, but, I would say it’s unlikely. Well, it’s certainly a for sure dream in a few people’s heads. Then you start to go, “Wow, this could really happen.” The dream that you had is now it’s altering, but it’s also getting fueled, so that now you feel like, this is within reach. We want to put this out. I guess I am becoming a little more self-indulgent as I get older. It’s not really like that for you, is it? The place where I started was when I was 7-years-old, my mom would drag me off to choir practice at the church. They were all done at once. We played in the middle of the afternoon. I think I’ve had a fairly eclectic, prolific kind of a life, and even though I’m still being creative, I think of the creativity now as a hobby. I’ve seen the second rough cut, it looks great.

Watch live streams, get artist updates, buy tickets, and RSVP to shows with Bandsintown. It may just go straight to Netflix or in Canada there’s a service called Crave. So, how drunk was David Lee Roth at the US Festival? If Emmett does retire from touring, he will go out at the top of his game. Sometimes you have to fight the powers that be, like radio is not going to necessarily add you into their demographic. He’s kind of like my guitar accompanist, ass kicking, buddy.

I think that’s a part of it, that he never lost sight of, I’m going for this. You know. [Laughs] He went onto some large scale things that made him a superstar. He is a singer, songwriter and masterful guitarist. The Ron we met just came off the resurrection of HEART and JEFFERSON STARSHIP. So I did. [Laughing] Being I only have to go down to the basement. It’s not really like that for you, is it? We’d love to do a website. I’m sure Ron went onto other things too. Were you one of those?

So, that means a lot less or maybe none of the road.

Ron misread the politics of how the band was managed. That’s what led me into music. So the guitar is now leading me, but what’s the first thing it leads me to do is to sit down and write a song.
